Easter with the Dog

Happy Easter to all our 4 legged friends, and their families that love them the most. Easter is the perfect time to gather with family, and enjoy the beautiful desert spring weather. You know we’re all about involving the dogs during the holidays, so here’s some great ideas to get your pets in on the action this holiday.

Easter Egg Hunt

When you think Easter, odds are you remember searching for eggs all over your house. Well just as kids love a good egg hunt, your dog will, too! If your dog isn’t used to nose exercises, let them watch you fill the eggs with treats. Once you’re done, hide them in the house, or outside, and let them into the area. To ensure they don’t eat the actual egg, follow them around collecting the eggs. Of course, a treat reward is due after all that hard work!

Easter Basket

Easter can be just another holiday to spoil your pets. Find a simple basket to fill with new toys, or their favorite treats. Easter related or not. You can hide this with their eggs as the final prize. If you’re still spring cleaning, you can include items your dog needs like a new bed, or comb to shed that winter coat.

Family Time

Spring weather in Arizona is perfect for getting outside, take advantage of it and take the family for a walk. Easter weekend will be a great time to play outside before it gets too hot. Play a game of catch with the dog, or go for a hike. You’ll miss this weather soon enough!

Food Safety

There are common foods we see on easter, like candies and hard boiled eggs. If you have children in the house that you’re hiding an easter basket or eggs for, it’s important to keep them out of reach from your pets. Keep your pets in a gated area of the house to keep them away from any food that could be hiding in eggs, or Easter baskets. If you’re dying hard boiled eggs, this snack can be a great treat for dogs, as long as the shells are completely taken off. Eggs are a great source of protein and packed with nutrients that dogs need.

Easter is going to be fun for the whole family this year! Get the dog involved to make it complete. If you’re unsure about any food items, and whether or not they’re safe for your pets, call us at (602) 559-9600. Happy Easter from the entire Phoenix Vet Center team!
